 Snorkeling
and scuba diving
are available throughout the Andaman.
Larger dive firms provide live-aboard
dive trips of 3-4 days to the prime
diving grounds of Phi Phi, Koh Surin
and Koh Similan.
Phi
Phi Islands : Phi Phi's
underwater charms are second to
none in terms of biodiversity and
sheer spectacle. The islands are
located on the sailing route between
Phuket and Krabi. The waters around
Phi Phi Le ( Viking Island ) is
so clear you can see the corals
and marine life from up above. Koh
Phi Phi Activities.
Surin
Islands National Park,
ten hours by charter boat from Phuket,
has the best coral. Some of the
prime dive spots are the channel
between the main islands of North
and South Surin; the southeastern
point of North Surin; Koh Chi off
the northeastern coast and Richelieu
Rock southeast of South Surin.
Similan Islands are rated even
higher than Koh Surin in terms of
marine biodiversity. The waters
around these nine islands are crystal
clear, allowing up to 30 meters
of visibility. Giant manta rays
are the stars of these parts]
Rock
Climbing
The jagged cliff of Railay Beach
in Krabi is the setting for this
thrilling outdoor sport. Rock climbing
may appear daunting to the uninitiated
but is in fact very safe, since
climbers are instructed on safety
rules first.
Seacanoe
An innovative way to explore the
stunning sea caves of Phangnga Bay,
sea canoe was pioneered by Seacanoe
Thailand ( see Directory ) and quickly
caught on since it can squeeze into
and under honeycombed, uninhabited
isles that are almost inaccessible
otherwise.
Seacanoe
trips usually last two days, with
overnight stay in tent.
Sea
Kayak
Sea Kayak is ideal for exploring
the beautiful treasure of Ao Nang
Bay in Krabi. The crystal-clear
water is dotted with tiny limestone
outcrops riddles with caves and
hollows and fringed by mangrove
forests. Instructions on basic control
of the canoe and safety are followed
by padding practice, and finally
the actual kayaking trip.
